Why We Started Moss and Mac

Like many great ideas, Moss & Mac wasn't born in a boardroom or from a detailed business plan. It started somewhere between family days out, coffee stops, muddy walks, and conversations about the kind of products we actually wanted to wear ourselves.

We're Kate and Stuart, the founders of Moss & Mac, and if there's one thing we've learned over the years, it's that life has a funny way of changing what you value.

In our younger years, weekends looked very different. We were part of the generation that grew up loving nights out, music, festivals and spending every weekend chasing the next social event. Like many millennials, we made memories on dance floors, lived for spontaneous nights out and probably spent far too much money on things we can't quite remember.

As the years passed, though, our priorities began to shift. We started a family, life became busier, and our definition of fun gradually evolved into something entirely different.

These days, our ideal weekend isn't found in a crowded bar. Instead, it's heading out for a walk in the Highlands, discovering a new coffee shop, planning a family adventure, exploring somewhere we've never been before or simply spending time outdoors together. We still crave adventure, excitement and experiences, but they look a little different now.

The late nights became early starts.

The hangovers became hikes.

The raves became runs.

And somewhere along the way, a really good coffee became one of life's greatest pleasures.

The more we spoke to friends and people around us, the more we realised we weren't alone. There seemed to be an entire generation going through the same transition. People who still wanted to make the most of their free time, who still loved discovering new places and trying new things, but who had swapped one lifestyle for another.

People who had traded pubs for paddle boards, clubs for climbing walls and nights out for weekends away.

It was from these conversations that the idea for Moss & Mac began to take shape.

We wanted to create a brand that reflected the stage of life we're in now. A brand that felt authentic to us and, more importantly, authentic to the people we hoped would wear it.

We didn't want to create products simply for the sake of creating products. We wanted to create pieces that people genuinely connected with. Products that felt personal. Products that sparked that little moment of recognition where someone sees a cap and immediately thinks, "That's exactly me."

At its heart, Moss & Mac is about personality.

It's about celebrating the things we love, the hobbies that define us, the adventures we plan our weekends around and the small moments that make life enjoyable. Whether that's hiking a mountain, sitting beside a loch with a flask of coffee, heading out on a paddle board, camping with friends or simply enjoying a slow Sunday morning, we believe those moments deserve to be celebrated.
